ABOUT THIS BOOK:
William Shakespeare was born in 1564 and died in 1616. He was a prominent, and perhaps the greatest English dramatist. Shakespeare’s greatness lies in his use of language on stage. Many profound statements about life and human nature can be seen in his plays. Apart from these, Shakespeare’s dramatisations explored almost all the whole gamut of human affairs. His themes are universal in the sense that the issues addressed can apply to anyone in any land and situation. His plays can be divided into historical plays, comedies and tragedies. Among this popular tragic works are Macbeth, Hamlet, King Lear and Othello. In all these tragic works, Othello is different in many ways. While the other three mentioned above deal with the fate of kings and princes, issues of state, and the supernatural powers such as ghosts in Hamlet and witches as in the weird sisters in Macbeth, Othello is concerned with a domestic issue – a theme that relates to the relationship between husband and wife, a boss and his subordinate and the righting of a perceived wrong.
